A price target is an output of an analyst's model, not the recommendation itself. GMR's populated target table therefore stores the old target, new target and recommendation status together.
That design prevents a common headline error: describing every target increase as an upgrade and every target cut as a downgrade.
Workday had the largest absolute increase in the 9 September public roundup
Daiwa Securities maintained Buy on Workday and increased its target from $170 to $230, a $60 increase. The unchanged recommendation means the event is classified as a target raise rather than an upgrade.
The magnitude is still notable because it indicates a materially different valuation output, even if the top-line stance remains the same.
Block and Chime also received higher targets without rating changes
President Capital Management maintained Buy on Block while lifting its target from $86 to $110. Barclays maintained Overweight on Chime while moving its target from $33 to $40.
These events belong together because the recommendation was unchanged. Whether the higher target came from estimate revisions, valuation multiples or a model roll-forward requires the underlying research rationale and should not be guessed from the target alone.
American Airlines and ServiceTitan show the opposite configuration
BNP Paribas maintained Neutral on American Airlines while reducing its target from $20 to $14. A same-day report says Morgan Stanley maintained Overweight on ServiceTitan while reducing the target from $124 to $92.
Those target cuts may carry significant information without constituting rating downgrades. GMR retains them as separate event types so the database can later compare their information value against genuine stance changes.
