Global Markets Review is turning its analyst-ratings coverage into a structured research product. The database is designed around the underlying research event rather than the headline generated by a news feed.
That means one analyst note can carry several fields at once: recommendation action, old and new target, estimate direction, catalyst and rationale. Storing them separately allows later analysis of which types of analyst action actually precede meaningful changes in consensus.
Deduplication rules
The same brokerage action is often syndicated by multiple outlets. GMR treats the original research action as one event and uses the research date as the primary timestamp where available.
If an outlet republishes the same note later, it should not create a second upgrade or target change. Where the original date cannot be established confidently, the record is flagged rather than assigned false precision.
Version and revision log
Schema v1.1, 9 September 2026: added catalyst, coverage-status, source-quality and deduplication-key fields to the original schema.
Future schema changes will be logged here so historical records can remain comparable even if new analytical fields are introduced.
| Field | Stored value | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Company / ticker | Security being covered | Primary entity key |
| Brokerage / analyst | Source of action | Allows firm- and analyst-level history |
| Research date | Underlying action date | Prevents syndication-date duplication |
| Old rating | Original brokerage wording | Preserves the starting view |
| New rating | Original brokerage wording | Preserves the actual change |
| Normalised stance | Positive / neutral / negative | Enables cross-broker comparison |
| Old price target | Prior target where available | Measures target movement |
| New price target | Updated target where available | Measures target movement |
| Estimate direction | Up / down / unchanged where supported | Separates model change from label change |
| Catalyst | Earnings, guidance, valuation, initiation, sector, other | Adds event context |
| Action type | Upgrade, downgrade, maintained, initiation, target-only | Prevents false classification |
| Rationale | Primary stated driver where public | Captures information content |
| Coverage status | Active / initiated / suspended / dropped | Distinguishes rating actions from coverage changes |
| Source quality | Direct research, company reference, reliable report | Makes evidence quality visible |
| Deduplication key | Ticker + brokerage + research date + action type | Reduces duplicate event counts |
